The number of deaths across the region today, Monday, May 18, now stands at 1,245, with three of the latest deaths recorded by NHS England for South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust among the nine confirmed today, Monday, May 18.
Nationally, the NHS has said a further 122 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,739.
Patients were aged between 47 and 100-years-old.

Seven of those patients, who were aged between 50 and 85, had no known underlying health condition.
The latest case figures show that in South Tyneside, 714 people have been confirmed as having the illness, with no new cases recorded as of today’s figures.
Across the region, it stands at 9,536, an increase of 14 since yesteday.
