Coronavirus Cases in India: 24,67,758 patients have recovered in India.

67,151 new coronavirus cases and 1,059 new deaths were recorded in India in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said. The fresh numbers have pushed the national total since the start of the pandemic to 32,34,474 cases, including 59,449 deaths. 24,67,758 patients have recovered from the infection in the country, pushing the recovery rate to 76.29 per cent. Maharashtra remains the hardest-hit in the pandemic, accounting for 7,03,823 cases. Maharashttra is followed by three southern states, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. India is the country with the third-highest coronavirus caseload in the world after the United States and Brazil. For the last 22 days, India has seen the highest number of daily cases of coronavirus in the world, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Here are the top 10 updates on coronavirus:

With 10,425 new COVID-19 cases and 329 deaths reported in Maharashtra on Tuesday, the tally for coronavirus cases in the state reached 7,03,823.

In a worrying indication that the COVID crisis in Delhi is far from over, the capital on Tuesday saw the highest spike in cases in the last 40 days, with 1,544 fresh cases. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called a high-level meeting today to discuss the situation. 

Tamil Nadu reported 5,951 new COVID-19 cases and 107 deaths on Tuesday, taking the state’s total count to 3,91,303. Chengalpattu, Coimbatore, Cuddalore and Thiruvallur districts reported the maximum number of cases on Tuesday.

Andhra Pradesh is the third worst-affected state by the coronavirus pandemic, with over 3.71 lakh cases so far; of these 3,460 are deaths linked to the virus.

In Karnataka, Congress chief DK Shivakumar has tested positive for coronavirus. The state has reported over 2.91 lakh cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court has taken note of the spurt in coronavirus cases and observed that the measures being taken to curb the spread are not sufficient. Uttar Pradesh has seen over 1.97 lakh  Covid cases, making it the fifth-worst affected state.

Russia has expressed its willingness to India for collaboration in the manufacturing of its Covid vaccine “Sputnik V”, a top Health Ministry official indicated.  “As far as Sputnik V vaccine is concerned, both India and Russia are in communication. Some initial information has been shared while some detailed information is awaited,” Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Tuesday, responding to a question on whether the Russian government has placed any formal request for the manufacturing of its Sputnik V vaccine in India. 

There has been a steady decline in the positivity rate of COVID-19 despite an exponential increase in testing, the Union Health Secretary  said.

The country’s top medical body, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), said that the number of total samples tested for the infection has reached over 3.76 crore. Over 8.23 lakh samples were tested yesterday. 

The coronavirus pandemic has killed over 8.19 lakh people globally since it emerged in China late last year. Over 2.38 crore people have been infected with the novel coronavirus.
