COVID-19 Cases and Vaccine: India recorded less than 30,000 fresh COVID-19 infections on Friday, the second time this month, which pushed its caseload to 97.96 lakh, while the total number of recoveries surged to 92.90 lakh, according to the Union health ministry data. The total coronavirus cases mounted to 97,96,769 with 29,398 fresh infections, while the death toll rose to 1,42,186 with 414 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed. India had recorded a daily rise of 26,567 cases on December 8. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 92,90,834 on Friday, pushing the national recovery rate to 94.84 percent. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.45 percent. The COVID-19 active caseload remained below 4 lakh for the fifth consecutive day. There are 3,63,749 active coronavirus infections in the country which comprise 3.71 percent of the total caseload, the data stated.

The novel mRNA vaccine candidate, HGCO19, is supported with seed grant under the Ind-CEPI mission of the Department of Biotechnology. The mRNA vaccines do not use the conventional model to produce immune response. Instead, they carry the molecular instructions to make the protein in the body through a synthetic RNA of the virus. The host body uses this to produce the viral protein that is recognised, thereby, making the body mount an immune response against the disease.

Nagaland’s COVID-19 tally mounted to 11,634 with detection of 32 fresh cases, a health official said on Friday. Sixty-six patients also recovered from COVID-19, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 10,812, he said. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state is 92.93 per cent, said Dr Denis Hangsing in the daily COVID-19 bulletin. “32 +ve cases of # COVID-19 have been detected today. Kiphire- 18, Peren- 11, Dimapur- 3. Also, 66 +ve patients have recovered. Kohima-48, Mon-14, Dimapur-3, Peren-1,” Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said in a tweet. Nagaland now has 629 active COVID-19 cases, the official said. Altogether 71 COVID-19 infected patients have died in the state, of which 61 are due to contagion, seven had comorbidities and death of 3 patients is under investigation, he said. Altogether 122 patients have migrated to other states, he said.

Thiruvananthapuram:: Kerala’s active COVID- 19 cases fell to 59,380 on Friday with 4,748 recoveries and 4,642 new infections. In the last 24 hours, 53,508 samples were tested and the test positivity rate was 8.68 per cent, Health minister K K Shailaja said. So far, 68,61,907 samples have been sent for testing. Kozhikode accounted for the highest number of cases on Friday-626, followed by Malappuram 619, Kollam 482 and Ernakulam 409, waynad reported 87 and Kasaragod 71 cases, the minister said in a press release here. The toll climbed to 2,562 with 29 recent deaths being confirmed due to coronavirus. Of the positive cases, 44 were health workers,73 came from outside the state and 4,028 were infected through contact. While the total caseload has mounted to 6,58,683, as many as 5,96,593 people have recuperated so far from the disease, the minister said. At least 3,15,644 people are under observation in various districts, including 13,542 in various hospitals.
