Health officials have confirmed a further 550 coronavirus infections in Leicester and the county.

There were 245 new infections in the city in the past 24 hours, while the total for the wider county was 305, according to today’s update from the Department of Health and Social Care.

Broken down by local authority areas, Charnwood recorded 88 new infections, while the figure for the Harborough district is 27.

Hinckley and Bosworth recorded 51 new cases, and there were 59 in North West Leicestershire, which covers Coalville and Ashby. There were 14 cases in Oadby and Wigston, 53 in Blaby and 13 in the Melton district.

More than 58,500 people in the city and county have tested positive for the virus since the beginning of the crisis.

The new cases, updated today at 4pm, mean that the total number of cases across the city and county since the start of the pandemic area by area are :

Leicester: 26,925

Blaby: 5,224

Charnwood: 9,286

Harborough: 3,753

Hinckley and Bosworth: 4,357

Melton: 1,962

North West Leicestershire: 4,071

Oadby and Wigston: 3,938

In other coronavirus news, Leicester’s Hospitals NHS Trust has revealed how staff administered more than 1,000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine in a single day for the first time.

NHS staff reached the milestone yesterday and that means that more than 12,600 vaccine doses have been given to patients in Leicester and Leicestershire so far.

Also, police officers were assaulted last night after they moved in to break up a house party in the Charnwood area.

Officers ordered the revellers to go home, issued fines and made a number of arrests, including two people who were at the party who had existing arrest warrants outstanding.

A tweet from Charnwood Police has revealed officers were also assaulted by ‘an individual at the party’ while they were in the process of dealing with the incident.

Blaby: 389.1 cases per 100,000

Charnwood: 333.6 cases per 100,000

Harborough: 343.3 cases per 100,000

Hinckley and Bosworth: 309.4 cases per 100,000

Melton: 243.3 cases per 100,000

North West Leicestershire: 351.3 cases per 100,000

Oadby and Wigston: 435 cases per 100,000
