COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, is transmitted through respiratory droplets. The virus-laden droplets also form fomite upon falling on a surface, which serves as a source for infection spread. In the study, published in the journal Physics of Fluids, the researchers analysed the drying of droplets on impermeable and porous surfaces.

Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar recorded three new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday that pushed the district’s infection tally to 25,433, official data showed. The number of active cases in the district came down to 42 from 48 the previous day, according to the data released by the UP Health Department for a 24-hour period. Another nine patients got discharged during the period with the overall recoveries reaching 25,300, the fifth-highest in the state. Gautam Buddh Nagar has a death toll of 91 with a mortality rate of 0.35 percent. The recovery rate of novel coronavirus patients reached 99.47 percent, the statistics showed. Meanwhile, the number of active COVID-19 cases in UP came down to 3,040 from 3,098 on Saturday while overall recoveries reached 5,90,448 and the death toll climbed to 8,702 on Sunday, the data showed.

The case fatality ratio (CFR) of Odisha stands at 0.56 percent while the states positivity rate remains at 4.19 percent. Of the 73 new cases detected in 19 of the 30 district of Odisha, 44 were reported from various quarantine centres while the remaining 29 are local contact cases.

The recoveries have surged to 1,06,11,731 with 11,016 patients getting discharged in a span of 24 hours. The cumulative number of healthcare and frontline workers vaccinated against COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 82 lakhs as on Sunday 8 AM. The second dose of COVID19 vaccination started on Saturday for those beneficiaries who have completed 28 days after receipt of the 1st dose. Kerala has reported the maximum number of single-day recoveries with 5,835 newly recovered cases. A total of 1,773 people recovered in Maharashtra in a span of 24 hours followed by 482 in Tamil Nadu. India’s present active caseload of 1.37 lakh now consists of just1.26 percent of India’s infections. The ministry said 86.25 percent of the new cases are from 6 states.
