Sadio Mane will miss Liverpool’s trip to face Aston Villa on Sunday in the Premier League after testing positive for Covid-19.
The Reds star attacker was the second player this week among Jurgen Klopp’s squad to contract coronavirus, after it was confirmed Thiago Alcantara had also recorded a positive test.
Mane’s positive test will come as a blow to the manager as he would have been in line to start at Villa Park in the 7pm kick-off this weekend, with the Premier League champions looking to continue their so far perfect start in defence of the title.
However, he will be unavailable due to having now started a 10-day period of self-isolation – in line with necessary Government protocols.
