Coronavirus Cases in India: The recovery rate is 94.59 per cent.

New Delhi:

India recorded 26,567 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of active coronavirus cases in the country to 3,83,866, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday. With 39,045 new recoveries, the number of overall recovered COVID-19 patients stand at 91,78,946, pushing the recovery rate to 94.59 per cent.

The overall COVID-19 cases reached 967,03,770, including 3,83,866 active cases and 91,78,946 recoveries. With 385 new deaths, the casualties mounted to 1,40,958.

Bharat Biotech, the Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical firm that has been developing coronavirus vaccine Covaxin, on Monday said that it had applied to the central drug regulator seeking emergency use authorisation.

It is the third firm after Serum Institute of India and American pharma giant Pfizer to apply for emergency use approval.

42 more people tested positive for coronavirus in Puducherry on Tuesday, taking the total caseload to 37,311, a top official of the Department of Health and Family Welfare said, according to PTI.

However, no new fatality was reported from any of the four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.

Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release that the fatalities remained 615 as no deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

The overall infections in Puducherry rose to 37,311 with the addition of new cases.

COVID LIVE News: 20 New Cases In Arunachal Pradesh, Total Count Rises To 16,415

Twenty more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the tally in the northeastern state to 16,415, PTI reported quoting a senior health official on Tuesday.

Forty-eight people recovered from COVID-19, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 15,653. The state now has 707 active coronavirus cases.

A total of 55 patients have died due to the infection so far, the official said.

The Mizoram government appointed Municipal Commissioner K Laldingliana the administrator of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) as the term of the present board is due to expire on December 10, PTI reported quoting officials on Tuesday.

The term expires on Thursday and the election could not be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they said.

The state poll panel also suggested the government that in the wake of the COVID-19 situation in Aizawl city, holding elections is not in the interest of public health, Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia said.

Jharkhand’s COVID-19 tally mounted to 1,10,457 with 179 fresh cases, while two more fatalities pushed the death toll to 988, a health department official said on Tuesday.

Ranchi district registered the maximum number of new infections at 79, followed by East Singhbhum (25) and Bokaro (13).

Jharkhand now has 1,759 active COVID-19 cases, while 1,07,710 people have been cured of the disease so far, the official said.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Schools Reopen For Classes 10 And 12 In Tripura

Schools reopened for 10th and 12th standard students in Tripura on Monday, months after they were closed in wake of Covid-19 pandemic. Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath visited schools and colleges in the capital, Agartala to inspect the preparedness and response of the students. On the first day, around 50 per cent of the students turned up for classes.

“It was decided to open schools and colleges. Reopening of schools became essential for class 10th and 12th students ahead of their board exams. I visited some of the schools to check the preparedness, I also visited women’s college here and the arrangements there were also satisfactory. Teachers were also present in good strength,” said Mr Nath.

“We used to attend online classes before regular classes started. We feel really good to be back in school, my parents have also permitted me to attend the regular classes. We met our teachers and friends after so long. We are taking adequate measures to protect ourselves,” said Sunayna Ghosh, a student.

An 87-year-old Indian-origin man from the north east of England will become one of the first people in the world to get a vaccine against COVID-19 when he receives his Pfizer/BioNTech jab at a hospital in Newcastle on Tuesday.

Hari Shukla from Tyne and Wear said he feels it is his duty to receive his first of the two-dose vaccine, a moment UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson hailed as a “huge step forward” as Tuesday was dubbed “V-Day” or Vaccine Day in the UK.

“I’m so pleased we are hopefully coming towards the end of this pandemic and I am delighted to be doing my bit by having the vaccine, I feel it is my duty to do so and do whatever I can to help,” said Shukla.

“Having been in contact with the NHS (National Health Service), I know how hard they all work and the greatest respect for them – they have a heart of gold and I am grateful for everything they have done to keep us safe during the pandemic,” he said.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Assam Reports 2 More COVID Deaths, 166 New Cases

Two more persons died to COVID-19 on Monday taking the number of deaths to 995, while 166 new infections pushed the tally to 2,13,925, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

He said that 131 coronavirus patients recovered from the disease and the number of total discharged people went up to 2,09,342.

Assam currently has 3,585 active cases, while three patients had migrated out of the state.

“Sad to share the demise of two #COVID patients today… Condolences & Prayers!” Mr Sarma said on Twitter.

Bharat Biotech, the Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical firm that has been developing coronavirus vaccine Covaxin, has applied to the central drug regulator seeking emergency use authorisation, sources said on Monday.

It is the third firm after Serum Institute of India and American pharma giant Pfizer to apply for emergency use approval.

Covaxin is being indigenously developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and is currently in Phase 3 trials. The trials are on at 18 sites across the country with over 22,000 volunteers. Read
